About Ithaca and the Surrounding Areas
Our agents market and sell homes in Tompkins, Cayuga, Seneca, Schuyler, Tioga, and Cortland counties, which are all located in the Heart of the Finger Lakes region.
The Finger Lakes are a chain of lakes in the west-central section of Upstate New York that are a popular tourist destination. The lakes mainly are linear in shape, each lake oriented on a north-south axis. The two longest, Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake, are among the deepest in America. Both are close to 40 miles (64 km) from end to end, but never more than 3.5 miles (5,600 m) wide. Cayuga is the longest (38.1 miles, 61.3 km), but Seneca is the largest in total area. Seneca is the deepest (618 feet, 188.4 m), followed by Cayuga (435 feet, 132.6 m), with the bottoms well below sea level. These largest lakes resemble the others in shape, which collectively reminded early map-makers of the fingers of a hand.
Employment in Colleges and Universities and Local Industry
We sell homes in the area to people who are employed or will be employed by Cornell University, Ithaca College, SUNY Cortland, Tompkins Cortland Community College, New York Chiropractor College Finger Lakes campus, Finger Lakes School of Massage, and so many other fine schools in the area.
This truly is a wonderful place to reside and there are many opportunities for employment in the area. We have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. This is one of the reasons why Ithaca and the surrounding areas have done so well in the real estate crisis. Our values have not experienced the highs and lows that other markets have. Ithaca was voted the best Top Retirement City for Wine Lovers.
There are major industries in the Cornell Business Park, Tompkins Airport, as well as the Cayuga Medical Center, and industry jobs like Borg Warner, as well as so many other employment opportunities.
The housing market has a variety of homes and ranges in pricing from $75,000 to $3,900,000. The average home is priced at $101.00 per square foot and the average home size is 1,800. There are investment opportunities as it is a college town and there is a rental market of it’s own.
Lake properties are a specialty of RE/MAX In Motion, shown here. The lake, as you now know, is 40 miles long and about 4 miles wide in Aurora. Lake properties vary so much, so make sure you ask for advice on what the lake offers.
Thank you for taking time to learn about our wonderful “piece of the planet” here and we look forward to serving your real estate needs and putting your plans IN MOTION.
